On construction of a church the Catholic soldiers serving in Tashkent originally were working, later the prisoners of war who were contained near Tashkent among whom there were highly skilled engineers, sculptors and bricklayers were builders. After the death in 1917 of Pranaitis and the architect Panchakevich construction continued under the leadership of the Catholic priest Boleslav Rutenis. After the revolution and coming to power in Tashkent of Bolsheviks construction was suspended generally because of a lack of funds for construction.
From 1925 to 1976 in the unfinished temple various enterprises and also the hostel and a warehouse were placed. For the entire period while the temple was used not for designated purpose, all sculptures which are in it were or are plundered, or destroyed.
In 1976 after the decision of the authorities on restoration of the building, it was restored and transferred to fixed assets to the Ministry of Culture of UZSSR. In 1981 the building of a church was announced by an architectural and historical monument of Uzbekistan.
In 1992 according to the decision of the authorities of the republic Uzbekistan the building of cathedral was transferred to Catholic parish of Tashkent. In 1993 full restoration of the building of a church under the leadership of the architect Sergey Adamov and the engineer Alexander Ponomaryov began.
